Akshan’s Three Mechanic Routes

AkshanAkshan uses the passive extra shot, ultimate scaling with crit, and repeated E attacks for three separate plans: on-hit, ultimate crit, and swing triggers. Identify the skill an augment serves, then build around that interaction.

Passive On-Hit: Dual Wield plus Double Tap

The passive extra shot counts as a normal attack. With Dual WieldDual Wield, one attack can produce four on-hit applications; add Double TapDouble Tap and a crit attack can expand to eight applications.

Light 'Em Up!Light 'Em Up!, FirebrandFirebrand and other repeated-attack augments benefit from the same multi-hit structure. The core recommendation is the interaction itself: secure Dual Wield, then use Double Tap to multiply the passive further.

Ultimate Crit: Vulnerability, Jeweled Gauntlet, and IE Upgrade

The ultimate scales with crit chance and crit damage but cannot crit by default. VulnerabilityVulnerability or Jeweled GauntletJeweled Gauntlet unlocks this route; pair it with Upgrade Infinity EdgeUpgrade Infinity Edge so the upgrade raises the ultimate first and the resulting crit gains another crit-damage multiplier.

Glass CannonGlass Cannon is the high-attack-damage branch: take it into multiple frontliners when you can approach safely, and skip it into long-range teams. It pairs with Hubris, Bloodthirster, or Blunt ForceBlunt Force.

E Build: Critical Missile, Fan The Hammer, and Earthwake

Every E shot can trigger on-hit effects and crits, so Critical MissileCritical Missile is a direct core and Fan The HammerFan The Hammer fires crit-capable bolts in several directions. E can sweep across multiple directions, but one clean direction is enough for the main damage.

EarthwakeEarthwake is the terrain branch: E swings and portal movement both leave explosive trails; Purist - CasterPurist - Caster is also a valid E option. Explicitly avoid Pursuit of HastePursuit of Haste and Pursuit of PowerPursuit of Power: E does not stack their quests correctly, so they stall in play.

If the last round offers Tank It Or Leave It, Goredrink, or Purist - Caster, all three are playable. Defensive crits from Tank It Or Leave It can also trigger Critical Missile.

Let Augments Set the Item Order

Without a crit augment, build Infinity Edge first and then Lord Dominik’s Regards; Terminus can replace the penetration slot. For sustain, add Berserker’s Greaves and Blade of the Ruined King. With Upgrade Infinity Edge, push crit to 200%; otherwise stop at 100% because overflow-to-tenacity has poor value.

Statikk Shiv is optional: the passive double shot and every E attack can repeatedly trigger its second effect and carry Blade or Terminus effects. Kraken Slayer needs Dual Wield to join the same chain. The setup assumes Cleanse, so Mercurial Scimitar and Mercury’s Treads do not have to occupy two slots.

E Swings, Marks, and W Revives

Mark the target with an attack or Q before E, especially near minions, because E prioritizes marked champions. The rope-to-wall line sets the swing radius, so choose a circle that will not collide with an enemy. Hard crowd control or champion collision stops E; being knocked down or landing manually also adds an ultimate shot.

W maintains camouflage near walls or in brush. Moving toward a scoundrel restores percentage mana; killing that target grants extra gold and revives allies they killed. If Akshan dies first, the revive cannot happen. R bullets are blocked by minions and turrets, so a champion lock can sometimes be used to send shots into a super minion or tower.

What is the core augment combo?

For passive on-hit, use Dual Wield plus Double Tap. For E crit, use Critical Missile plus Fan The Hammer. For ultimate crit, start with Vulnerability or Jeweled Gauntlet and add Upgrade Infinity Edge. There is no single answer outside the chosen skill route.

Is Earthwake worth playing?

Yes, as a terrain-focused E setup. Wall swings and portals can leave repeated explosive trails, especially in narrow areas. It is a separate route, not a required part of Critical Missile.

Why avoid the two Pursuit augments?

Pursuit of Haste and Pursuit of Power do not stack their quests correctly through E, so their progress stalls. This E setup skips both.

What do you build without a crit augment?

Build Infinity Edge first, then Lord Dominik’s Regards or Terminus. Insert attack-speed boots and Blade when sustain is needed. Only the Upgrade Infinity Edge route pushes toward 200% crit; other routes stop at 100%.
